Deputies: 16-year-old arrested following high-speed chase

Flagler County Sheriff's Office: 1 injured in pursuit

PALM COAST, Fla. – A 16-year-old boy was was arrested just before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday following a high-speed chase in the area of Pine Hurst Lane in Palm Coast, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office said. 

The 16-year-old faces charges of aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude.

Deputies said they tried to stop a reckless driver after the driver almost hit two unmarked sheriff's vehicles. 

As deputies tried to stop the car, the driver sped up and did not stop for several traffic control devices, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said as they chased the car, identified as a newer black Toyota Camry, it continued onto Belle Terre Parkway.

The driver then entered the intersection of Royal Palms and Belle Terre and hit another car and continued on, deputies said. The driver that was struck was taken to Florida Hospital Flagler with injuries.

The car was pursued through several areas of Palm Coast before the chase was called off. 

Deputies said the car was later located in the area of Wellwood Lane and Wellhaven Lane. Deputies arrived on the scene and determined that the vehicle was abandoned after a tip from a helicopter. 

Deputies set up a perimeter of the area and located the driver. He was arrested with the use of a sheriff's K-9. 

The 16-year-old driver was booked into the Flagler County Jail then turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice, according to the Sheriff's Office.
