LAKE MARY, Fla. – On the same day as a couple is charged with feeding bears in Seminole County, Florida Fish and Wildlife released surveillance video from the neighborhood where a woman was attacked in her Lake Mary garage.
The attack happened in April and left Terri Frana with bite marks on her arms and legs and claw marks on her back.
Since the attack, investigators have monitored bear activity in that area and say they received tips, that 63-year-old Eugene Cifers, a neighbor of that woman, was feeding bears.
FWC says they Cifers' actions contributed to bears being comfortable searching for food in that area.
Cifers appeared in court Friday morning and plead not guilty to the charge before a judge.
He'll be back in court next month and if a jury finds him guilty he could face 60 days in jail and a $500 fine.
Corey Zeak and Lori Clem were also charged with feeding bears after FWC says several tips came in about the couple.
They plead no contest and each got six months probation.
"While you're on probation no feeding of any wildlife you know better," said Judge Frederic Schott.
Both Clem and Zeak say it was unintentional.
"I left a bag of trash out. I have three children to take care of so, its something I forgot," Clem said.
"I live right next to the Wekiva River so anytime you throw a bag of trash or any kind of food they come right up and get it," Zeak told WKMG-TV.
In addition to probation, the couple must pay $200 to FWC and perform 25 hours of community service, a punishment Zeak thinks isn't fair.
"I think its a little excessive but its not my decision," Zeak said.
