4-year-old shot in Titusville

Police investigating shooting of child

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – A 4-year-old girl was upgraded from critical condition to stable condition Saturday after Titusville police said the child was shot.
The child was brought to Parish Hospital at around 9:20 a.m. suffering from a gunshot wound. The child was airlifted to a trauma center in critical condition.

Police are investigating the shooting at 1605 Craig Ave. and believe it resulted from a gun not being properly locked away.

The Department of Children and Families told WKMG-TV it has launched an investigation of its own into the incident. A DCF spokesperson confirmed more than one child lives at the house, and it's too early to say what will happen to the children.

Abraham West, who lives across the street from where the child was shot, said he was praying for the child's full recovery.

"I hope she pulls through," he said.

Police have not yet said whether the parents will face charges, but pointed out the investigation is continuing.
