GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol says one person was killed in an offset head-on collision Saturday morning.

Troopers said a driver of a Chevrolet Impala was driving westbound in the eastbound lane of State Road 20 around 2:15 a.m. Saturday. FHP said that driver's name will be released pending further investigation. Alcohol tests are pending in this accident.

Police said the driver's left front hit the left front of an Oldsmobile Alero being driven by 32-year-old William Sanders, of Hawthorne.

Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

Tami Thompson, a 24-year-old passenger in Sanders' car, was taken to UF Health Gainesville in serious condition.
