Police said there was evidence Hawes had been huffing Dust-Off inside the U-Haul before he hit the woman, who suffered two fractures to her leg, including her femur. The child suffered a minor injury to her head, police said.

According to GPD, about an hour before the crash in the parking lot, Hawes had been reported for hitting property with the same U-Haul behind a Sunshine Inn on NW 42nd Avenue. Police said that crash damaged the building.
