Teen hurt when tractor-trailer hits Alachua County school bus

15-year-old in critical condition; truck driver charged with careless driving

WALDO, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol said a tractor-trailer failed to stop for a school bus on N.E. Waldo Road on Tuesday morning, hitting the bus and injuring at 15-year-old boy.

Troopers said the truck driver swerved to avoid the bus, but the trailer jack-knifed and struck the open doors of the bus and the Hawthorne teen who was boarding at the time.

The student was taken to the pediatric unit at Shands-Gainesville Hospital in Gainesville, where he was in critical condition.

No other students nor the driver were hurt.

The truck driver, Alfredo Garcia, 47, of Miami, was charged with careless driving, according to the FHP report.
