Anglers can take advantage of license-free freshwater fishing this weekend

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Anglers in Florida can take advantage of a license-free freshwater fishing weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

Both residents and visitors in the state can catch their dinner for no cost, as long as they follow the normal size and limit restrictions.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, freshwater fishing in the state creates 14,000 jobs and has a $1.7 billion economic impact.

FWC spokeswoman Amanda Nalley said free fishing weekends are a great chance to introduce new people to the sport.

“It’s a great opportunity to go out, if you don’t normally fish and you want to give it a shot, or you want to go out with your kids fishing and you don’t have a license currently," Nalley said. "It is just a great opportunity to get out on the water, and try your hand at fishing.”

An annual freshwater fishing license in Florida typically costs $17 dollars for a resident and $47 for a visitor.
