Authorities search for person in sisters creek

Boats, helicopters, Coast Guard search for person who may have fallen in river

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Multiple Agencies were searching the sisters creek waterway Saturday for a man who is believed to have fallen off a dock and into the water.

Police arrived at the Riverfront RV Park shortly before 4 a.m. for the call that a man fell off the dock and into Sister Creek waterway.

JSO said the man who called 911 says he tried to rescue him but the outgoing tide was too strong. Police say both men were drinking alcoholic beverages prior to the incident.

A woman who lives at the RV park told Channel 4 the man was her friend.  She didn't want to give her name.

"I just can't believe this happened. I thought they found him. I thought they found him."

"He was the sweetest, kindest guy I know. I've helped him out many times. I'm very sad about it."

Susan Perry also lives in the park and saw the search going on. Her hope is to soon have answers and she prays for the man's family.

"It's just sad. Sad. I heard he wasn't that old," Perry said.

A JFRD fireboat searched the surrounding waterways and shorelines from the water. JFRD also used sonar equipment to look for the man.

The Coast Guard also responded with a search boat and an Air Unit but was unable to find anyone.  JSO also had its air unit and dive team searching, and likewise didn't find anyone.

JSO hasn't identified the missing man and said the person was entered into the NCIC/FCIC system as a missing and endangered person. The Sheriff's Office missing persons unit continues to investigate.
