200-acre brush fire in Hampton 100% contained

BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. – Firefighters and forestry personnel on Thursday battled a brush fire that grew to 200 acres before it was 100% contained in the area of Southeast 109th Street and Southeast 38th Avenue in Hampton.

Stations throughout Bradford, Clay and Putnam counties worked to put out the fire, which burned on Bradford County land owned by the Two Buck Hunting Club, officials said.

Heilbronn Springs Fire Department officials said a two-acre fire was extinguished by firefighters at Southwest County Road 227 and SW CR 18, along with a seven-acre fire at State Road 100 and Meng Dairy Road.

Heilbronn Springs fire spokesman Jacob Swaggerty said Florida Forestry Service had a plane in the air above the State Road 100 and SE 109th Street as firefighters were working to contain the blazes.

Swaggerty said three homes were threatened but personnel were able to defend the homes.

Bradford County is one of many local counties under a burn ban because of dry conditions.
