ORANGE PARK, Fla. - The Clay County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deputy-involved shooting early Friday morning that sent a 26-year-old man to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to Lt. Chris Coldiron of the Clay County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call about a suicidal man at 351 Crossing Boulevard in Orange Park, off Wells Road.
That deputy, Reginald Hyatt, rendered first aid to Cannady until Clay County Fire-Rescue personnel arrived to take Cannady to Orange Park Medical Center, where he was reported in critical condition.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement responded to assist with the investigation of the deputy-involved shooting.
The Sheriff's Office says there is no record of previous calls to Cannady's home, and he had no history of arrests.
Hyatt, who has been with the Sheriff's Office since March 2011, will be on paid administrative leave for three days -- standard practice after police-involved shootings.
