GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – Clay County passed a controversial ordinance Tuesday to limit mobile businesses in the county, including a popular mobile pet clinic.
Initially, the county was going to ask mobile clinics to get a county permit, pay an application fee, have $500,000 in liability insurance, and be 1,500 feet away from similar business.
The revisions include mobile businesses would have to have permits from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and the county, and the businesses would only be able to operate in certain zoning districts.
The ordinance is in response to complaints from traditional vets who say the mobile pet clinic has an unfair advantage, although many residents say they depend on the mobile clinic for low-cost care.
