The emails are part of a phishing scam where unsolicited emails try to trick victims into providing personal and financial information. The emails appear to come from legitimate organizations but are really from scammers.

TAP is a volunteer board that advises the IRS on systemic issues affecting taxpayers. It does not request personal or financial information.

The sheriff's office is warning people not to respond to the emails or click on any links. If anyone receives emails that appear to be from TAP regarding your personal tax information, you're asked to forward it to phishing@irs.dot.gov.
