Clay County fire crews, along with crews from Orange Park and St. Johns County, had the fire under control in 20 minutes, officials said.

Apartment management assisted with the residents who were displaced by the fire by providing move-in ready apartments.

The American Red Cross was contacted to assist with the residents who lived in the apartment that was completely destroyed.

Fire officials said there did not appear to be a working smoke detector in the unit where the fire started and it was discovered after a child notified adults that there was a fire in the bedroom.

No firefighters or residents were injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal but is not considered suspicious at this time.
