Memorial golf tournament honors Det. David White

Community honors Clay County detective shot, killed during drug raid

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Law enforcement officers and community members came out to support the family of a fallen Clay County detective on Saturday.

All slots were filled for Saturday's Detective David White Memorial Golf Tournament at the Orange Park Country Club. Jennifer White hit the first drive to start the day and thanked the many golfers and volunteers for remembering her husband in such a positive way.

A dinner and auction were held after the tournament. The $20 ticket included a Southern-style buffet, live and silent auction and entertainment.

County Sheriff's Office Detective David White was shot and killed by an armed suspect at a home on Alligator Boulevard in Middleburg, Fla., about 6:25 p.m. Thursday.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office reports the event, organized by the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 104, raised $31,000 for the Det. David White Memorial Foundation. The funds will be used to send the Sheriff's Office Color Guard to the Law Enforcement Memorial Day observance in Washington, D.C., in May 2013 at which White's name will be added to the memorial wall.

Detective White was killed in February as investigators closed in on a Middleburg house after receiving a tip of a meth lab. His partner, Detective Matt Hanlin, was also shot, but is recovering.
