MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. - Officials say a Florida Panhandle deputy was at fault when he ran over a woman who was sleeping on the beach.
The Walton County Sheriff's Office released a review board's findings Monday, essentially agreeing with Florida Highway Patrol investigators.
Authorities say Deputy Chad Biernacki was patrolling Miramar Beach last month when he issued a group of underage drinkers notices to appear. After getting back into his truck, Biernacki was making a U-turn when his right front tire rolled over 21-year-old Jessica Nystrom. The Northwest Florida Daily News reports that the woman was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital and then released the next day.
Biernacki has remained on active duty since the accident, but officials say he'll definitely be suspended. It wasn't immediately clear how long the suspension would last.
