JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Jacksonville woman is facing charges after the Florida Highway Patrol said she was driving under the influence of alcohol and caused a crash near the Acosta Bridge early Thursday morning.
Sarah Vanswearingen, 26, was driving a Chevrolet Equinox, traveling the wrong way on the Acosta Expressway just before 1 a.m. Thursday when she collided with a Freightliner Box truck that was northbound on the Acosta Expressway.
After the impact between the Equinox and the Box truck, the box truck caught fire.
Vanswearingen was transported to UF Health Jacksonville with minor injuries.
The driver of the box truck was not injured, according to FHP.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts according to an FHP report.
Alcohol is suspected in the crash and charges are pending against Vanswearingen, according to an FHP report.
The roadway was closed for several hours due to the crash and cleanup and reopened just after 4:45 a.m.
