JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The City of Jacksonville and Keep Jacksonville Beautiful (KJB) have expanded their partnership with Republic Services as part of next month's third annual America Recycles Day.
The expansion will begin Thursday morning when three local paper shredding organizations and a local metal recycler will set up two additional recycling sites.
Multiple companies have partnered with the city and KJB for the popular annual event.
The community-wide recycling collection event, a nationwide initiative by KAB, will be held at the following locations and times on Thursday at each facility's parking lot:
- Prime Osborn Convention Center, 1000 Water Street 32204 from 1 p.m. - 6 p.m.
- Kmart, 500 Atlantic Boulevard Neptune Beach 32266 from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.
- DataSavers, 888 Suemac Road 32254 from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.
At the Prime Osborn on Thursday, staff and volunteers will staff its shred truck, which allows recyclers to watch as their paper is shredded. All three sites will also collect reusable materials for the Teacher Supply Depot. Those materials can include office supplies, school supplies, and arts and crafts supplies.
This year at the Kmart site, trucks will be onsite to collect and shred paper and a third DataSavers truck will collect hard drives, which will be destroyed at its Suemac Road facility. A Soles4Souls donation box for gently worn shoes will be available, and the electronics donated at this location will benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Baymeadows.
At the DataSavers facility on Suemac Road, hard drives will be collected and destroyed on site. A certification of destruction will be provided.
At last years event, Republic Services collected 23,100 pounds of paper, magazines, newspapers, phonebooks and cardboard at the Prime Osborn. Additionally, 90 cell phones and 100 cell phone chargers were collected and then donated to Hubbard House, and 129 pairs of shoes were collected and then donated to Soles4Souls.
It's important to know that this drop off event is for Jacksonville/Duval County residents only and commercial/business recyclables will not be accepted.
No liquids or household hazardous materials will be accepted at this event. Residents can take those items to the city's Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 2675 Commonwealth Ave.
