JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol says it was raining just before 3 a.m. Saturday when a driver lost control of a car while traveling south on U.S. 17, just north of Birmingham Gate of NAS Jacksonville.
The Hyundai Elantra traveled over a concrete curb and onto the grassy shoulder of U.S. 17, hit a concrete utility and came to rest, according to troopers. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the driver is being withheld until their family members have been notified.
