Kabreel McEachin-Campbell receives scholarhip from United Negro College Fund

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – He has dreams of being a news producer and now he hopes a national recognition and scholarship will bring him closer to that goal.

Edward Waters College sophomore and recipient of the United Negro College Fund Rising Star scholarship, Kabreel McEachin-Campbell was honored during the 30th annual UNCF An Evening of Stars.

School officials say the show was taped April 6, but will broadcast on BET Sunday at 10p.m. He was one of five students honored nationally.

Campbell is a mass communications major, and was awarded a total of $25,000 for the next two years. It's money the student says came at the right time, because he was unsure of how he would finish school.

School officials say Kabreel McEachin-Campbell is the first Edward Waters College student to receive the UNCF Rising Star Scholarship.

This scholarship was open to any sophomore with a 3.0 GPA who attends one of the 37 Historically Black Colleges or Universities who are a UNCF-member institutions.

The funds for this particular scholarship were donated to the UNCF by Target. Since its founding in 1944, UNCF has raised more than $3.6 billion to help more than 400,000 students receive college degrees.
