Son found dad dead in home; police suspect foul play

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 82-year-old man was found dead in his Westside home early Wednesday morning, and police suspect foul play.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, George Davis' son went to the home in the 700 block of St. Clair Street about 6:20 a.m. and found his dad unresponsive. Rescue personnel pronounced Davis dead.

Police said Davis's cause of death was blunt force trauma.

"There's a lot of blood and we have to do an extensive search, crime scene investigation," Sgt. T.K. Waters said.

Waters said there did not appear to be forced entry into the house.

"Such a nice man. He would give you the shirt off his back," neighbor Illeta Thomas said of Davis. "I've been in the neighborhood for 20 years. If Mr. George got it, you got it. And why this happens to him, I really don't know, and I sure hope the person who did this is caught because Mr. George did not deserve this at all. He is a good person."

Anyone with any information about the killing is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
