JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Neighbors said they heard up to four explosions when a single story home in the St. Nicholas area caught fire Saturday.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue responded to the scene on Bridgewater Circle around 2 p.m. Six people were home at the time, but managed to escape. At least two people had to be transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Crews believe an outside source caused the fire. The majority of the damage was done to an aluminum cover over the carport. The fire melted the cover and caused it to fall.
Crews said the wind caused some complications, but they were able to bring the fire under control in 20 minutes.
"It was 4 different explosions. I thought I was back in Vietnam or something," said neighbor Robert Klein. "I'm like, oh my god. So, we responded as fast as we could and so did the other neighbors. I mean, this is a good neighborhood. Good people."
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue is still investigating.
