Funeral held for slain Jacksonville 16-year-old

Service held at First Timothy Baptist Church

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Loved ones of a Jacksonville teen shot and killed on July 10 gathered to say final goodbyes Saturday.

Police said Jonathan Thomas, 16, was found dead lying at the end of a driveway in northwest Jacksonville.

Police have not made any arrests in the shooting.

Jonathan's family and friends gathered at First Timothy Baptist Church to say goodbye to the Robert Lee High School student.

Jonathan's uncle Leroy Sabb told News4Jax that his nephew loved sports, people and was a lively person.

"I see it as a negative and a positive. I'm glad we can come together, unite when there isn't any violence going on and pray that Jonathan's death wasn't in vain. He brought life to this world and he'll leave light behind him. Hopefully these young guys will get it together and we'll stop all the killing and the violence," Sabb said.
