JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Podiatrist Dr. Vimal Reddy says he couldn't believe it when he heard some Duval County school children arrive to school without shoes. He says families simply can't afford to buy their kids shoes every few months.
Many elementary-aged children outgrow their shoes within five to six months. It's the reason Reddy started the Duval County School Kids shoe drive.

This is the second year of the annual event asking for used shoes that will fit children between kindergarten and eighth grade.
While new shoes are always welcome, Reddy says gently used shoes can make such a difference for a child in our area. He says dress shoes, tennis shoes, sports shoes, any and all types of children's shoes are welcome. They are also collecting new socks.
The shoe and sock drive ends next week -- Dec. 12 -- so act now. There are several donation boxes around town: any Heartland Physical Therapy facility, 1st Place Sports locations or Whataburger restaurant.
