Man found dead in stolen car was wanted in jewelry store burglary

Car was found near intersection of 14th Ave. South, 1st St. South

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – A man found dead Sunday in a stolen car at Jacksonville Beach was identified by police as the person wanted for a jewelry store burglary, police said.

The stolen car was found in a parking lot near the corner of 14th Avenue and 1st Street south with the body of a dead man inside, officials said.

Police later identified the man as Matthew Stephen McCormack, 43.

They said he was wanted in connection with the burglary of the Espling Jewelers on Marsh Landing Parkway in Jacksonville Beach.

No foul play is suspected in his death, which investigators do not believe was connected to the robbery.

His cause of death is pending toxicology results, police said.
