Man hospitalized after Eastside house fire

JSO: Arson could be behind Eastside house fire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A house fire on the Eastside that sent a man to the hospital in critical condition is being investigated as arson, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said three people were inside the Spearing Street home when the fire started about 4 a.m.  One man was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The other two people were hospitalized for minor injuries.

The man who rented the home said he's looking for a new place to live, because the home was destroyed.

"I'm very fortunate that I woke up and was able to get everyone out in time," said tenant John Kenney. "When I finally went out the window, the whole front window was engulfed in flames."

JSO said they aren't sure how the fire started, but are looking at arson as a possible cause.
