Police: Man shoots self in stomach in University Park

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police are trying to figure out how and why a man shot himself in the stomach early Thursday morning in the University Park area of Arlington.

Around 4:30 a.m. officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office were notified that a man was at Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds.

When officers arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to his stomach.

Police said the man is in his late 20s to early 30s.

They said the man was taken to Memorial, then flown to UF Health Jacksonville. His injuries have been down graded from life-threatening.

Police went to a home on Sandy Shores Drive, off Wayland Street, in reference where the shooting may have taken place.

Police said the man shot himself in the stomach. They are investigating if drugs or alcohol were involved.

JSO is interviewing witnesses to try to figure out what happened.
