JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Police have identified the man who died early Tuesday morning after a shooting in the Moncrief Park neighborhood as a 47-year-old man who lived about 10 blocks away.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says Terrance Johnson died at Shands Jacksonville Medical Center after he was found unresponsive in the road in the 1300 block of West 21st Street. Police found the body when they responded to a report of a shooting.
"When they got here, they found one black male in his mid to late 40s lying unresponsive on the ground," Waters said. "Rescue was called. He was transported to Shands Jacksonville, where he was pronounced dead."
Neighbors gathered near the scene Tuesday morning and expressed concern to Channel 4.
"It's a shame, really. It's really a shame because you got people out here," Wilbert Staten said. "You've got children that play in this neighborhood and you've got so many churches around in the neighborhood, too."
According to police, no suspects were in custody.
"Next step is to canvass and gather information," Waters said. "Talk to as many witnesses as we can."
When police released the identity on Thursday they did not provide any update on the investigation.
Anyone with information the could help in this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
