JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - One in five Duval County students have thought of suicide, many of those actually attempting it.
Just last year, one in nine high school students across the nation attempted suicide.
These are statistics that are often seen and this week's National Suicide Prevention Week is trying to bring attention to the matter.
Various vigils and events have been held throughout the country this week and Jacksonville Beach will hold a vigil of their own Friday evening.
A candlelight vigil will be held to remember those who have lost their lives to suicide. It is also to raise awareness about it.
The vigil will be held Friday night at Latham Plaza in Jacksonville Beach.
A picnic will take place before the event at 6:00 and the vigil starts at 7:00.
Candles will be provided for people who attend, but everyone is recommended to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.
