When to shop and save on airfare

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Until now, research showed that Tuesday was the best day to buy your airfare if you wanted to save the most money. That's not the case anymore according to Hopper.com. Their results from a year long study revealed you'll save the most if you shop on a Thursday.

While Hopper found the tickets will cost you less if you buy on Thursday, the savings isn't really huge. It's $10 for domestic flights, $25 for International. The worst time to buy is the weekend. Hopper said Saturday you will find the highest prices for domestic travel. Sunday's rates for International travel will be the most you'll pay all week.

When you travel also matters. To maximize your savings, Hopper found you should be flying out on Wednesday. Their research showed that's also the cheapest day to book a return ticket. Flying on Wednesday can save anywhere from $40 to $60. In addition, you generally don't deal with long lines and other travel hassles when you fly mid-week.

While these savings may not sound like a lot, they add up. If you buy and travel on the right days, you can shave $95 off your domestic ticket, $145 off International.
