Woman found dead in Mandarin

Victim's boyfriend being questioned

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman was found stabbed to death at a home in Mandarin, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police were called to a home on Millpoint Road around 7 p.m.  Sunday and found the woman's body.  She was in her mid-50s.

"We are proceeding with the investigation, executing a search warrant on the house, in the process of collecting evidence, trying to figure out how and why this happened," said Sgt. Jay Farhat with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Police said a man, believed to be the woman's boyfriend and also in his mid-50s, contacted a nearby convenience store clerk and asked the clerk to call 911.

"Once JSO arrived at the convenience store, he informed patrolmen he may have harmed his girlfriend," Farhat said.

The man was not officially charged late Sunday night, but Farhat said charges were expected.

"The suspect has not been able to tell us a whole lot at this point," Farhat said.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office will likely hold a news conference Monday morning to release more information, according to Farhat.
