Eustis police officer shoots, kills man at apartment

Man described as in his mid-40s

LEESBURG, Fla. – A Eustis police officer shot and killed a man inside at an apartment in Leesburg, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The shooting occurred Tuesday evening at the Laurel Oaks Apartments.

The Leesburg Police Department told Local 6 that its officers and Eustis police went to a third-floor apartment and multiple shots were fired.  No other details about what prompted the shooting were released.

A Eustis police officer, whose name has not yet been released, shot the man, who died.

Local 6 spoke to a woman who said she knew the man who was killed. She said he was in his mid-40s and lived at the apartment with his girlfriend and her teenage daughter.

"It's scary because I have three young kids at home and live 150 to 200 feet from all of this," neighbor Katrina Scolpini said.

Jaclyn Bailey came out of her apartment, along with several other neighbors.

"I'm ready to move now," Bailey said. "I'm definitely not feeling comfortable living here knowing that's happening."

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave, which is normal procedure.

The FDLE will investigate the shooting.
