Gov. Rick Scott accidentally directs callers to sex chat hotline

Scott's speech about meningitis outbreak information

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In a speech about Florida's response to the meningitis outbreak, Gov. Rick Scott accidentally directed people to call an adult chat hotline instead of the Florida Department of Health hotline he was discussing.

Scott's misstep happened at a Florida Cabinet meeting Tuesday.

"You can call the Dept. of Health's toll-free, 24 hour hotline set up in response to this," Scott said.

People who dialed the 866 number were connected to a recording of a female phone sex operator.

"Hello boys. Thank you for calling me on my anniversary," the recording says.

In fact, the two hot lines share the same digits, but Scott read the numbers in the wrong order.

The correct phone number for the Florida Department of Health's meningitis outbreak information hotline is 866-523-7339.
