MIAMI, Fla. - The mayor of Miami and a city commissioner are going to court over the design of a new bridge. They are suing the Florida Department of Transportation for their proposed design of a downtown bridge.
Mayor Tomas Regalado and Commissioner Marc Sarnoff said that the original plan was more aesthetically pleasing and would remove barriers between Miami and the Overtown district.
FDOT changed the plans and opted for a less costly and boxlike design that would leave the community barriers in place.
The circuit court lawsuit accuses the department of reneging on a pledge to build an arched bridge on interstate 395. The highway that connects !-95 with MacArthur Causeway in Miami Beach.
The lawsuit represents all Miami residents and asks that the judge force FDOT to adhere to the original plan.
