MONTICELLO, Fla. – On the eve of a brutal murder 20 years ago, a British tourist came face to face with the man who shot her and killed her partner at a north Florida rest area.

A Jefferson County judge resentenced 34-year-old Audra Akins to 40 additional years in prison for the attempted murder of Margaret Jagger (pictured below on left). The sentence is shorter than the original one of life in prison.

In a robbery gone bad, Jagger and her late partner Gary Colley (pictured below on right) were at a rest area in Monticello. Jagger returned from the United Kingdom to face her assailant in court Friday.

"Aundra made another bad decision to fire a loaded gun into the vehicle, turning our holiday into hell," Jagger said.

A lot of things have changed in 20 years, including the rest area where the shooting happened.

Reliving the nightmare 20 years later struck fresh emotions with Jagger.

"Its very strange. It's 20 years tomorrow that Gary died. So it's pretty emotional," Jagger said.

Akins, who was 14 at the time of the shooting, says he has changed and asked Jagger to forgive him.

"I'm not the kid I was once before," he said in court. "I'm a grown man and I want to make a difference, and I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me."

Akins was 14 when he pulled the trigger. He'll be 85 if he lives until the end of his sentence.

Akins was resentenced due to a Supreme Court ruling saying life in prison for a child as young as Akins was is unconstitutional.
