The worker then spotted a man struggling near the home, and when the worker went to assist him, the worker noticed that the man had been shot, deputies said.

The shooting victim was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in critical condition. It's not known if he lives in the house.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the house was destroyed in the fire. Fire rescue spokesman John Mulhall says no one was inside, but a dog died in the fire.

Officials said a car fire near Sandy Oaks Lane and Lancaster Road, about 10 miles from the house fire, may be connected to the house fire.

No other details were immediately known.
