Man shot in gun battle with Florida deputies

CLERMONT, Fla. – A man was shot by deputies after he fought with his son in Clermont early Sunday morning, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies went to a home on Dwights Road at 4:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a domestic violence dispute between a father and son.

When deputies arrived, Michael Carroll, 42, the father, allegedly fired multiple shots at them using a rifle.
Deputies then returned fire and shot him, the sheriff's office said.

Sheriff's deputies said Michael Carroll was fighting with his son, Sean Carroll, 21, when the mother stepped in to break up the fight, and was hit in the face.

Michael Carroll was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. He is in stable condition.

Sean Carroll  was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail on charges of simple battery domestic violence on his father.

Evan Kaplan, 19, was also arrested and charged with battery on Michael Carroll for his involvement in the fight.

The two Lake County deputies involved in the shooting were both placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.

Deputies are in the process of getting a warrant for the Michael Carroll. It’s unknown what his charges will be.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
