MIAMI - Authorities say a Miami-Dade police officer fatally shot a man who tried to run officers over with their patrol car.
The officers were responding to a call Tuesday night that a suspicious person was looking inside parked vehicles. When the officers confronted 44-year-old Juan Luis Rodriguez, he was not able to give a plausible reason for why he was looking inside the cars.
The Miami Herald reports that the officers tried to handcuff Rodriguez, but he broke away and got into their police cruiser. Police say Rodriguez tried to run the officers over, and one officer shot and killed him.
Rodriguez already had an open probation warrant from 2008 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
