There were five people in the home, including a father, mother and three children.

Police said Dassat attacked the father, who then wrestled Dassat and put him in a bear hug.

The man's wife grabbed the bat and beat him with it, police said.

Dassat was able to break free and run away but he had significant head injuries, according to North Port police.

During the investigation, NPPD was contacted about a man with head injuries matching the suspect's description at a Port Charlotte hospital.

After giving a fake name, detectives determined Dassat was the robber, police said.

He was booked into the Charlotte County Jail with no bond on four felony and one misdemeanor charges.
