Convicted on first charge, now facing new charges

PALATKA, Fla. – A Putnam County man being taken into custody Friday after he was convicted on a charge of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest faces more charges after officers found morphine and crack cocaine in his wallet.

Bailiffs who performed a required search of Patrick Cook, 47, before taking him from the courthouse to the county jail said they found 30 milligrams of morphine and about 1 gram of crack cocaine hidden in Cook’s wallet.

Cook was charged with two counts of possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Cook was convicted in connection with an August 2015 disturbance at a home on North County Road 315 in Interlachen. When deputies attempted to remove Cook from the property, he resisted and began fighting. According to court documents, Cook attempting to pull out a deputy's Taser and handgun. According to the report, as Cook was being transported to jail, Cook told deputies he intended to kill the deputies.

Cook remains in the Putnam County Jail awaiting sentencing.
