Report: Fernandez, others in boat accident had strong alcohol odor

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A new report claims Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez and the men he was boating with on the night they died had a strong odor of alcohol on their bodies when they were recovered.

The Herald reports that the search warrant affidavit claims the divers smelled the odor the morning of the accident on Sept. 25.

Fernandez and the two men were in the pitcher's boat, a 32-foot SeaVee, when it struck a jetty off Miami Beach.

According to the report, the affidavit also states that the boat was going at a high rate of speed and that the driver of the vessel was driving with "recklessness" that was "exacerbated by the consumption of alcohol."

Toxicology reports have been completed but not released by investigators.
