500 couples renew vows together

Event at Ripley's Believe It or Not! was attempt to beat world record

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – In a mass matrimonial attempt at a Guinness World Record, more than 500 couples reaffirmed their love for one another Sunday at Ripley's Believe It or Not! in St. Augustine.

"The record is currently held by the University of Miami and it's 1087 couples," said Kim Kiff, the general manager of Ripley Attractions.

Sure, the husbands and wives may have a few more wrinkles this time down the aisle. But the couples told Channel 4 their feelings are just as strong as when they first kissed as man and wife.

"It's just nice to do it again. We had such a blast the first time," said Samantha Sparks, who said "I do" all over again with hubby Adam Sparks.

For Michelle and Marvin Taylor, it was a chance to not only mark an anniversary, but also a gesture of enduring love.

"We've been married almost 14 years," said Michelle.

"Yeah, 14 years. We've been through a lot here and there and it was just important to show our love for each other one more time," said Marvin.

February is especially important for April and Douglas McKissick. The month marks their celebration of a rekindled romance that eventually led to their son.

"Many years later she found me and we ended up falling in love all over again," said Douglas.

"Now we have a baby," said April.

The mass vow renewal fell short of the record. The couples say their love is something to be celebrated, even if it won't go down in the history books.

"We'll do it again next year and the next 10 years if need be," said Douglas McKissick.
