According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to the Howard Johnson at SR 16/I-95 after a call came in just after 7:30 p.m. of a reported robbery.

The caller, Jones, told deputies that he was approached by a male subject as he walked out of the room and ordered to the ground, deputies said.

Jones told the deputy that his wallet was the only item taken, but he couldn’t advise a description or direction of travel for the suspect.

A Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit responded, along with detectives from the Major Crimes Unit.

Jones' wallet was found inside the room by detectives and further information revealed that Jones made the story up to get out of work, deputies said.
