ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Family and friends held a small vigil Wednesday night for a woman missing for more than a year in the parking lot where her car was found.
Rebecca Ware has not been seen or heard from since Oct. 29, 2010, when she left her workplace, Hydro Aluminum North America, in St. Augustine Shores. Her car was found in a Publix parking lot in St. Augustine.
"I just want her to come home, come home. I can't take it anymore," said Gladys Varnadore, Ware's mother.
Relatives cried at the vigil as Ware's mother kissed a picture of her daughter. Some family members still hope Ware will be found alive, while others want answers.
"I am holding out hope, we're holding hope and that she'll come up and say, 'Hey, how you doing? Sorry for all this worry,'" Varnadore said.
"I just don't have the hope that she's alive. I don't have that," Ware's aunt Theresa Nolan said.
Ware's family said the most frustrating part is that Ware's boyfriend, Timothy Johnson, is in custody in Putnam County. He's being held on attempted rape charges of another woman. The family said that St. Johns County investigators have questioned Johnson and he has been listed as a person of interest, but Johnson has not been charged in Ware's disappearance.
Ware's family said they have gone through agony over the last year and that they are continuing to look to detectives for hope and support. They also hope there will be a break in Ware's case. Her employer has even put up a $5,000 reward for anyone with information.
"It's very tough," Varnadore said. "I wonder what they're doing, why haven't they notified us? Did they get her? Or someone will come forward. I've just got a lot of hope knowing that she's alive."
