Hastings man killed in motorcycle crash

Deputies: Man not wearing helmet when motorcycle struck minivan

HASTINGS, Fla. – St. Johns County traffic homicide investigators are investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred Saturday evening in Hastings.

Deputies were called to 200 Chase Street in Hastings shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday after getting a call about a crash.

The investigation revealed that a motorcycle, driven by 43-year-old Calvin Leroy Wesley, of Hastings, was going east when he struck a minivan driven by 85-year-old Martha Garris, of Hastings.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue said Wesley died at the scene. Garris was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation, but investigators say speed and alcohol may be factors in the crash.  Investigators said Wesley was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
