Deputies: St. Augustine boy, 10, injured in accidental shooting

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A 10-year-old boy was injured in an accidental shooting Wednesday in St. Augustine, according to a report from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the shooting happened about 4 p.m. at a home on Shady Oak Circle.

According to the report, the 10-year-old was shot in the leg while he was sweeping the porch outside his home.

The family told deputies they heard a pop and then the child realized he had been shot in the thigh. 

The boy’s mother called 911 and Fire Rescue crews were able to tend to the boy’s injuries, the report said.

At this point, deputies said, they can’t tell where the gunshot originated. The Sheriff's Office said it's being investigated as an accident.
