Fountain of Youth receives national historic designation

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Fountain of Youth has been listed on the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places, Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner announced Wednesday.

The historic tourist destination was developed by Walter B. Fraser in the 1930s. The park was founded on the history of the 1513 landing of Don Juan Ponce de Leon and his search for eternal youth. A well whose water is said to reflect his story has been enclosed by a spring house and attracts numerous visitors.
