St. Johns beaches turn away vehicles

County administrators say soft sand makes beaches unsuitable for driving

ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. – Many motorists hoping to get a spot on the beaches of St. Johns County this Memorial Day had to make other arrangements.

According to county administrators, sand conditions on southern St. Augustine Beach through Crescent and Butler beaches were not suitable for beach driving today and only four-wheel-drive vehicles were allowed onto the sand.
