SARASOTA, Fla. - A developer in southwest Florida is reviewing its safety protocols for staff and subcontractors after a roofer was fatally struck by lightning.
The Sarasota County Fire Department said the 39-year-old man died Wednesday after being struck by lightning while working on the roof of a Sarasota home.
The fire department said the man went into cardiac arrest and was hospitalized, but attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
The vice president of sales and marketing for developer Taylor Morrison's west Florida division told the Sarasota Herald-Tribune that the man was a member of the framing crew.
Cammie Longenecker said the company "will be cooperating with all parties involved to understand and offer assistance." She also said the company will review its safety protocols for the dangers of thunder and lightning.
