Woman shot in head at Orlando restaurant

Authorities: Victim in critical condition after shooting during robbery

ORLANDO, Fla. – A woman is in extremely critical condition after being shot in the head during a robbery at a restaurant.

Orange County deputies said they are actively searching for the gunman.

The shooting happened just before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night when a man wearing a mask stormed into the China Wok restaurant on Silver Star Road near Pine Hills Road.

"When he came up to one of the workers, there was a language barrier," said Orange County Sheriff Spokeswoman Jane Watrel. "She didn't understand what he was saying and he shot her in the head."

Watrel said there were at least three other people inside the family-owned restaurant at the time.

"Then, another worker nearby figured out something was going on, opened up the drawer, [and] he took an undetermined amount of cash and took off," said Watrel.

Deputies have not identified the shooting victim.

WKMG-TV's cameras was there as another victim was hauled out on a stretcher with an apparent head wound and taken to the hospital.

A man was also placed in handcuffs as investigators tried to figure out what happened.

"I was actually about to go in there and get something to eat," said Courtney Williamson, who witnessed the suspect fleeing the scene.

"I saw him run around the side of the building. By the time he got around there, I heard some gunshots and I don't know if that was him shooting back there this way. I didn't know, so I kind of like ducked," said Williamson. "I didn't know if he was shooting back this way or somebody was shooting at him."

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s between 5'9" and 5'10". He was last seen wearing a black hat, a black mask and holding a black revolver. He was also wearing a white shirt long-sleeved shirt with horizontal stripes.
