Police say Johnson attacked man at South Beach nightclub

Former Miami Dolphins running back Larry Johnson was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery early Tuesday morning in Miami Beach.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A former NFL running back who spent a season with the Miami Dolphins was arrested early Tuesday morning after he attacked a man at a South Beach nightclub, police said.

Larry Johnson was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery.

Miami Beach police said Johnson was at a club at the Delano when the man claimed Johnson punched him in the face, broke a bottle on the table and swung it at him several times. The man, who had cuts on hand and forearm, said Johnson struck him several more times while he was on the floor. He claimed the attack was unprovoked.

According to the arrest report, Johnson said he confronted the man for taking drinks from his table. Johnson said he turned his back and was pushed onto the table by the man.

Police said the victim had blood on his clothing and a torn shirt.

Johnson spent one season with the Dolphins in 2011. Prior to that, he spent seven seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as stints with the Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Redskins.
